The Green Campus Project is designed and conceived by the International Institute of Waste Management (IIWM) to provide technical institutions in India, with the basic strategies and tactics necessary to transform themselves into Green, Low carbon institutions with the capacity to address climate change, increase resource efficiency, enhance ecosystem management and minimise waste and pollution. The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), in the month of January 2017, issued a circular to all AICTE approved Technical Institutions to actively participate in the IIWM’s programme “Green Campus Initiative with Swachh Bharath Mission Focus” and take the support of IIWM to execute this initiative. Green Campus means, Campus planning, design and development of structured implementation of plans to achieve and surpass zero net carbon/water/waste and to become a regenerative organization within the context of the local bioregion
To effectively support this journey and other transformative processes in the institutions, IIWM formulated guidelines, which are structured in such a way that the focus is on the sustainable planning, design & development and implementation & management of the Eco features for the technical institutions’ campus. This is linked to the core business of teaching, research and outreach, which are the fabrics and operational basis of the campus. These guidelines are further to this circular, which lays down the guidelines for implementation of this programme.
